Five minutes with Abby Cruickshank

I loved my internship as it gave me a taste for what the industry is like and I was exposed to so many new things.

I studied Civil Engineering at Heriot-Watt University and have been on the Monklands project as a Graduate Civil Engineer for just over a month now. I started my journey with Laing O'Rourke on the Summer and Industrial Placement Programme (SIP), where I worked on Shepperton Studios for 2 months. I loved my internship as it gave me a taste for what the industry is like and I was exposed to so many new things, learning all the time.

I then was offered a place on the Graduate Programme, the process between the two was very straightforward, I had to do a small form to confirm my interest and once they had offered me a place, I got my location assigned for starting in September.

The SIP gave me a good staring knowledge on how things work on site whilst allowing me to meet a number of people within the company who I have already been in contact with/worked with again in my new role at Monklands. I have loved my first month at Laing O'Rourke, everyone has been so welcoming and helpful, there is an abundance of knowledge within every team which is going to help me massively to excel in my position.
