A day in the life

Sarah joined the Laing O'Rourke Graduate programme after winning the Construction and Engineering Design Undergraduate of the Year in 2013 where her prize was a summer placement with Laing O'Rourke in Australia.

Sarah Leggett, Graduate Development Programme
"It was through the Undergraduate of the Year competition that I met some amazing people at Laing O'Rourke and knew that I had to work here."

I’ve always had an interest in engineering, from a very early age.  I remember being fascinated by how and why buildings stand up as they do.  Even though my school didn’t teach mechanics, I learnt about them after school, and when I went to university, I had the most amazing engineering design lecturer.  She told me about the Undergraduate of the Year competition, which was sponsored by Laing O’Rourke.  It was through this competition that I met some amazing people at Laing O'Rourke and knew that I had to work here.  My dream now is to work on a skyline-defining project and be able to say ‘I did that'.
